Solupraz is the result of in-depth research by veterinary fish experts who have recognised the need for ornamental fish keepers to have access to high quality veterinary pharmaceutical products which are both safe and effective.
The active ingredient in Solupraz is praziquantel which has been used in a range of fish species for the control of a variety of fish parasites since the early 1990's, with specific studies in carp for cestode (tapeworm) infestations as well as ectoparasites such as monogean trematodes, or flukes.
The method of treatment using Solupraz is as follows:-
Sufficient product should be used to ensure a concentration of 4 grams of Solupraz per 1000 litres (220 gallons) of pond water.
There are two convenient sachet sizes -
- 10g which is sufficient for 2500 litres (550 gallons)
- 100g which is sufficient for 25000 litres (5500 gallons)
Directions for use:
Turn off the UV and bypass any carbon filters. Put the required number of Solupraz sachets into 10 litres of pond water in a clean bucket and mix well. Pour this suspension into the pond and rinse the bucket out with pond water to make sure you have used all of the product. Leave for 24 hours and then turn on the UV and activate the carbon filter.
As with the treatment for skin and gill flukes, repeat treatment after 7 days to ensure developed eggs are killed.
Use once a year as a routine wormer to prevent the build-up of tapeworm or flukes.
Solupraz is manufactured to the highest European Pharmaceutical standard under a Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) Licence.
Praziquantel does not usually dissolve well in water, and many products use powder which needs to be added to solvents before use. The special formulation of Solupraz has overcome this problem, allowing you to use an effective dose without the risks of other additions.
Solupraz has been specially developed for use by a fish vet. You can be assured of its quality.
Extensive trials have shown no toxic effect of Praziquantal on the natural wildlife of the pond.
Praziquantal is deactivated by UV light and carbon filters so these must be turned off for 24 hours after the Solupraz is put into the pond.
2 grams of Solupraz is equivalent to 1 gram of pure Praziquantal.
Solupraz is marketed under the Small Animal Exemption Scheme of the Veterinary Medicines Directorate.
